Welcome to the DFG Research Unit 854
Post-Genomic Strategies for New Antibiotic Drugs and Targets

Antibiotic activity testing - Cell wall biosynthesis blocked in a staphylococcal cell - Structure of the antibiotic hormaomycin - Genome of Pseudomonas fluorescens Pf5 (figure legend from left to right)
Our summer term seminar series has started,
please check the dates here .
Our collaborative research unit is a consortium of 8 individual projects with the objective to investigate promising new antibiotic compounds, molecular mechanisms and targets using post-genome era strategies. Our aims are to
-
identify new antibiotic compounds through genome mining and generate structural variants through engineering of biosynthetic pathways and mutasynthesis
-
study new natural compounds as to their molecular mechanisms of action
-
investigate in detail molecular targets as to new aspects of antibiotic mechanisms and innovative therapeutic strategies.
