General information on accomodation and the German housing market

We strongly recommend starting to search for accommodation already from your home country and as early as possible. EURAXESS Germany offers some useful general information on housing, including a list of abbreviations used in housing advertisements.

Guesthouses in Bonn

Since the demand for accommodation usually exceeds supply, you should apply for a room in one of the guesthouses as early as possible. Your host institute or the Welcome Centre can be of assistance to you in this matter.

Private housing offers

The Welcome Centre would like to support international scientists searching for accomodation in Bonn. For this purpose we collect private housing offers in a housing database. If you are interested in one of these offers, please contact us with information about your arrival and departure dates and preferred size of the apartment. We will be happy to check our database and send you contact addresses of landlords. We try to collect a variety of different offers and as many offers as possible. However, we cannot guarantee that there is always a suitable apartment available. We therefore expect you and your host institute to be proactive and explore some options on your own. Our website provides information and links that will help you with your search. The Welcome Centre can only act as intermediary between landlords and visiting scientists. We can not inspect the apartments, conclude a lease or take any financial responsibility. The lease is a contract between the landlord and the visiting scientist only. The Welcome Centre does not assume any liability. Should there be any language barriers we will be happy to assist as far as possible.

Short-term rentals by private agencies

There are several private providers that offer short-term rentals of fully equipped private rooms or flats.

Furnished apartments:

Real estate agents:

There are also several real estate agencies which have specialized on furnished apartments for short term and long term rentals. Please note that real estate agents usually take a commission fee if they successfully broker a contract. We therefore recommend reading the general terms and conditions carefully.

Private rooms or apartments on the housing market

If you choose to look for accommodation on the German housing market yourself, you should be aware that it may take considerably longer to find suitable accommodation. Check out the local newspapers, especially the Generalanzeiger and the Bonner Rundschau. Advertisements are usually published on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and they are also published online on the websites below. Cheaper accomodation is usually found outside of Bonn, but can often still be easily reached by public transportation.

Accommodation for Conferences

The University of Bonn has agreed special rates with several hotels in Bonn for guest researchers participating in conferences or workshops. A list of hotels is available on request from the Welcome Centre or from Ms. Duwe in the Research Department.
